Cowles Library subscribes to the print versions of The Des Moines Register and The Wall Street Journal, which are displayed in the north entrance lobby. Current issues are retained for three months and then recycled. Issues of The Des Moines Register from 1916-2024 are available on microfilm and kept permanently. Visit the Information Desk for help with microfilm. You can also access content from these newspapers online. The Des Moines Register is available from 1871-present, and The Wall Street Journal is available from 1984-present (after creating a free account).
The library also provides access to The New York Times (1851-present) via your own personal NYTimes.com account. Learn more about creating a free personal NYTimes.com account.
Many other newspapers are available in the library's online newspaper collections, and you can also search across hundreds of newspapers in SuperSearch. Visit the Information Desk or Ask a Librarian if you need help locating online newspapers.
The Times-Delphic, Drake's student newspaper, is available online, and the library has digitized many of the back issues of The Times-Delphic.
Selected popular magazines (e.g., Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Wired) are on display in the north entrance lobby. Full-text articles from many of these magazine can be found in SuperSearch. The library also subscribes to a number of magazine archives, which are listed below.
