Drake Faculty OER Grant 2023

Cowles Library, with generous support from Provost Mattison, is excited to announce another opportunity for full-time Drake faculty interested in using open educational resources (OER) in their courses. OER can benefit students in many ways, including saving money and expediting access. The Drake Faculty OER 2023 Grant Program is offering stipends between $500 and $1,500 to participants who complete the program, which involves adopting, adapting, or creating an OER to use in one or more of your courses.

This program will begin in March 2023, and participants must complete all requirements and use the new OER in at least one course before the end of spring 2024 in order to receive the full stipend.

Requirements to receive stipend:

  1. Either have participated in an OER educational program (I-COER, 2022 Drake Faculty Open Education Grant Program) OR have completed the Drake Faculty Open Education Grant Learning Modules (completing these modules will take approximately 2-3 hours).
  2. Attend a grant kick-off meeting on March 24, 2023 at 3:30pm via Zoom that will include the grant administrators and all participants.
  3. Assign a Creative Commons license to any materials created.
  4. Deposit syllabi and any new course objects created for the project into eScholarShare.
  5. Notify the Registrar and bookstore of your OER use.
  6. Replace a commercial textbook or course materials with OER in one or more courses before the end of spring term 2024.
  7. Conduct a student survey (provided by the library) relating to the use of your OER.
  8. Complete an evaluation form that will help us assess your experience, your students’ experience, and the program as a whole.

Informational Sessions

Faculty who have questions about applying for this grant are encouraged to attend one of two informational sessions via Zoom:

(Attending one of these sessions is not required in order to apply for the grant.)

Grant Stipends

Stipend amounts will depend on which OER activity you complete:

  • Adopt or adapt an existing OER: $500
  • Create a new OER (more than 50% of the work must be original content): $1,500

Deadline

Applications are due by Tuesday, February 28th, 2023. Individuals will be notified of the status of their application by Friday, March 10. Grants will be awarded based on representation of a wide range of disciplines and the alignment of application responses to the proposed content of this program.
