What is Chat GPT?

"Chat GPT is an artificial intelligence program that generates dialogue. Created by Open AI, this high-capable chatbot uses machine learning algorithms to process and analyze large amounts of data to generate responses to user inquiries. This language processing program is able to understand human language as it is spoken and written, allowing it to understand the information it is fed, and what to spit back out. A student can type in a question, and ChatGPT spits back out an easily understandable answer – in a variety of formats with precise stipulations."

General Information

  1. What are the main issues that arise with using ChatGPT and AI for writing papers?
    • Made up citations
    • Making up or "hallucinating" information it does not know the answer to.
  2. What does it mean when Artificial Intelligence (AI) “hallucinates”?
    • If AI does not know the information, then it just makes it up.  So accuracy of information could be a problem.  It is also difficult to know when AI hallucinates.
  3. What can ChatGPT do?
    • As of September 2023, ChatGPT can see, hear, and speak using webcams and speakers. If a user upgrades to the Plus edition they can upload images for ChatGPT to engage with
    • As of October 2023, DALL-E 3 (an image generation model) was integrated into ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Enterprise. This allows ChatGPT to do more with imagery.
