Remote Cowles Library Resources & Support

Resources and services to assist with remote learning and instruction during the COVID-19 crisis

Beginning Wednesday, November 11, the Cowles Library building will be closed.

With the switch to virtual learning, Cowles Library is offering contact-free materials lobby pickup for Drake faculty, staff, and students while the building is closed. We will be open for contact-free materials pickup ONLY from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Wednesday, November 11 - Friday, November 13 and
Monday, November 16 - Friday, November 20

Holds can be placed on items. For more information and instructions, please click on this slide or go to To return items, please continue to use the outdoor book drop near the library's north entrance.

Until the library building reopens, these are the only times you will be able to enter the library, and only for hold pickups. This service is available to Drake faculty, staff, and students, and applies to the Cowles Library collections as well as books available from Interlibrary Loan and FastTRAC libraries.

Here's how it works:

  • Sign in to SuperSearch using your Drake credentials and find a book or DVD you want to borrow.
  • Click the Request link while viewing the record, and fill out the request form to place the hold.
  • When your items are ready to pick up, you will receive an email. Please do not come to the library unless you have received this email.
  • To pick up your items, come to the north entrance of the library and scan in with your Drake ID. Please be sure to comply with any University requirements regarding temperature monitoring and face masks before arriving. There will be a Pickup Table just inside the entrance; items will be wrapped (or bagged) for privacy and marked with your last name. They will already have been checked out to you, so all you need to do is grab your items and go!

If you wish to return items, please continue to use the book drop located just outside the library's north entrance.
