SuperSearch: Partner Libraries

Information and guides to help you use SuperSearch at Cowles Library

Searching Partner Libraries

You can search the print collections of Partner Libraries in SuperSearch by choosing the Partner Libraries button. The default scope searches all partners (including Drake's print collections), but you can select an individual Partner from the dropdown menu if you like.

Search Results

Currently, books that are owned by more than one Partner are not combined into a single record. If you search for a book that multiple Partners own, you will see multiple results with the note "Check Holdings." If the book is owned by Cowles Library, you will see an availability note (either "Available at Cowles Library" or "Not Available").

You might also see a "View X versions" button where X is a number. This means that multiple versions of the same title were found at the same library, and that library could be Cowles or a Partner. Click the button to get more information.

Requesting Items from Partner Libraries

Note: You must sign in with your Drake ID and Password to request items. Only current Drake students, faculty, and staff may request from Partner Libraries.

When you find a book you'd like to request:

  1. Click the Location and Status button, then click the "Partner Library Holdings" link. A small window will appear and display the Partner Library name and item availability.
  2. Click the Partner Library name, and full availability details will appear with a Request link.

  3. Click the Request link and fill out the request form. To have the item delivered to Cowles Library, select "Drake" as the Pickup Institution (Cowles Library will automatically be selected as the Pickup Library once you do this). To pick the item up at another institution, select it from the Pickup Institution dropdown. Depending on the Partner, the request form may not have all of the fields pictured below, but Pickup Institution and Pickup Library will always be present and required. When the required fields have been filled in, click the Request button. Request form
  4. You will receive an email notification when the item is ready for you to pick up. The typical loan period from Partner Libraries is 90 days.

Walk-In Borrowing

If you happen to live near a Partner Library, you also have the option of walk-in borrowing at that library. You don't need special authorization or registration; simply present your Drake ID to check out books.

The materials you are able to check out are subject to the Partner Library's restrictions (see below), so it's a good idea to ask at the library before you look for material on the shelf.

Partner Library Material Restrictions

This service is limited to current Drake faculty, staff, and students, and the focus is on print materials only (primarily books). Online articles and e-books are not part of this service.

Which materials are not allowed for checkout depends upon the partner library, but typically special collections, media (videos and music), items on reserve, and print journals are excluded from this service.
